The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

As someone who is not big into poetry, it means something to say that this one poem stuck out to me. More recently, my plans have been turned upside, flipped around, thrown sideways, and then somehow put back together, all crooked but also somehow straighter than before. I don't know if I can say that I'm currently on a path less traveled, but I can say that I have been enlightened about one fact: life has its own ideas about how it will go. For everyone there are more than two choices of paths, but I think whichever choice you choose to follow, it has an element of "meant to be". My aunt has recently told me that "what is meant to be yours will be, what is not will never be". When the right path opens up, you will know. It will come as easy as breathing, and there will be a certain amount of "click". Everything will fall into place.  I will be the first to say that it almost sounds like a cheesy rom-com, but isn't life just about falling in love with whatever you choose to do? Wherever you choose to go?

When you come to the crossroads described in Frost's poem, it might not be the path less traveled that you choose, but the path that is very distinctly yours. It will truly make all the difference.
